The Joyce Kohfeldt Determination Award, which was first awarded in 2012, provides a $1,000 non-renewable scholarship to a graduating Crosby Scholar senior who has overcome adversity while pursuing his or her educational goals and has emerged with a remarkable story of determination. The applicant must plan to enroll in a two- or four-year college or university.
To be considered for this award, applicant must:

complete all requirements of the Crosby Scholars Program
A $1,000 non-renewable award
Students can begin applying October 1, 2023 and must submit a completed online application through their Crosby student portal by January 3, 2024.

Activities resume – Current activities resume should be in chart form and should include hours of participation or service for each activity. Include community service involvement, as well as any part-time employment. Use the resume in your Crosby portal as a guide.

Essay discussing how determination has served you well throughout your life, and how it will continue to serve you as you embark upon your college journey. Essay should not exceed 500 words.
Applications must be submitted by the scholarship deadline – we will not accept late applications. Students who need access to a computer may email djones@crosbyscholarsiredell.org to schedule an appointment to use a computer in the Crosby Scholars office weekdays before 5:00pm.
If you are selected as a recipient of this Award, you will be invited and expected to attend a Crosby Scholars Celebration Event to be recognized and celebrated for your achievements.
