NORTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR’S SCHOOL

The Governor’s School of North Carolina is the oldest statewide summer residential program for
gifted and advanced high school students in the nation. The program, which is open to rising
seniors only, with exceptions made for rising juniors in selected performing/visual arts areas, is
located on two campuses: Governor’s School West at Greensboro College in Greensboro and
Governor’s School East at Meredith College in Raleigh. Governor’s School West began in 1963
and Governor’s School East began in 1978. Approximately 35%-40% of students that apply are
accepted to the Governor’s School Program.
